We provide Short Term Rehabilitation services for those residents who desire to return to independent living. Services include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. Residents are evaluated (as ordered by their attending physician), and an individualized treatment plan is established to help them achieve both short and long term goals.
Speech Therapy helps a person improve their ability to communicate. Speech Therapy may be appropriate for residents with certain speech disorders such as Apraxia (difficulty connecting speech messages from the brain to the mouth) of which Stroke is a common cause; Dysarthria (characterized by slurred or slow speech) can be caused by brain injuries or strokes; or it can also be utilized for certain language disorders such as Apahasia (affects a persons ability to understand written and spoken language); and certain medical conditions such as Dementia.
Occupational Therapy helps a resident to maintain or regain the ability to perform activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, and being able to feed oneself. Occupational Therapists may help by adapting the environment to enable a resident to accomplish a task or providing a resident with special equipment such as weighted utensils, divided plates or “reachers” that will enable a resident to reach an object without having to bend or stoop.
Physical Therapy helps residents with physical injuries or illnesses to maintain or regain range of motion. Physical Therapists create treatment plans that involve stretching, strength training, and exercises.
